| The analyst band requires a foundation of knowledge
and skills in area of specialization generally obtained from graduating
from a four-year college or university with nine semester hours in
programming and one year of experience in business application
consulting or development. Experience in the field of work related to

| This position is being recruited for at the Journey
Competency Level under the Career Banding Program. The hiring range for
this position is $62,408-$76,707 and the salary grade equivalent is 76.

POSITION
DESCRIPTION: This position is within the Research Programming unit of
the Carolina Population Center, and it will provide data management
under the direction of the faculty investigators for a variety of
publicly and privately funded research projects. The position involves
manipulating nutrition data from multiple U.S. and international sources
reflecting changes over time. The files are typically large with
millions of records per file and are hierarchical as well as
longitudinal and/or repeated cross-sectional. The analyst will work on
all aspects of data acquisition and data management, and in conjunction
with the investigators, will develop plans for the data and analyses.
S/he will work with a team of senior programmers in the Research
Programming unit. The analyst will be responsible for construction of
complex variables covering multiple levels and times, and for
documenting the programming techniques used to generate these variables,
which will be used by the entire research team. All IT positions at the
Carolina Population Center are subject to a 180-day probationary
period. ESSENTIAL SKILLS: Proficiency in SAS or Stata is required. This
position will require a high level of skill at data management and
sophisticated programming techniques for efficient processing of the
data and associated analyses. Statistical analysis under the direction
of project faculty may be required. |

| Preferred Qualifications: |
|
| Experience with population-based surveys, data
cleaning and post-processing, data documentation, dissemination, and
user support are highly desirable. Experience with analysis of complex
survey data is highly desirable. Ability to work with a team of faculty
and senior programmers, taking direction while also providing
independent analysis and suggestions as to the programming needs of the
project. Ability to direct the work of other team members as needed.
Experience with commercial food purchasing data sources including
Nielsen, Gladson, Product Launch Analytics, and others is highly
desirable. Experience with 24-hour recall food consumption data is
highly desirable. |
