| Minimum Education and Experience: |
| The analyst band requires a foundation of knowledge
and skills in area of specialization generally obtained from graduating
from a four-year college or university with nine semester hours in
programming and one year of experience in business application
consulting or development. Experience in the field of work related to
the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

| This position is being recruited for at the Journey
Competency Level under the Career Banding Program. The hiring range for
this position is $62,408-$76,707 and the salary grade equivalent is 76.

POSITION
DESCRIPTION: This position is within the Research Programming unit of
the Carolina Population Center, and it will provide data management
under the direction of the faculty investigators for a variety of
publicly and privately funded research projects. The position involves
creating and testing a CAPI data collection system for use in China,
tracking and managing incoming data, cleaning the data, creating complex
analysis variables, longitudinal analysis files and documentation for
dissemination, and providing user service. The files are typically large
with millions of records per file and are hierarchical as well as
longitudinal. The analyst will work with a team of senior programmers in
the Research Programming unit. All IT positions at the Carolina
Population Center are subject to a 180-day probationary period.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS: Experience developing data collection systems in CSPro
or proficiency with SAS or Stata are required. This position will
require a high level of skill at data management and sophisticated
programming techniques for efficient processing of the data and
associated analyses. Statistical analysis under the direction of project
faculty may be required. Foreign travel may be required. |

| Preferred Qualifications: |
|
| Experience with population-based surveys, data
cleaning and post-processing, data documentation, dissemination, and
user support are highly desirable. Experience with analysis of complex
survey data is highly desirable. Ability to work with a team of faculty
and senior programmers, taking direction while also providing
independent analysis and suggestions as to the programming needs of the
project. Ability to direct the work of other team members as needed.
Experience with commercial food purchasing data sources including
Nielsen, Gladson, Product Launch Analytics, and others is highly
desirable. Experience with 24-hour recall food consumption data is
highly desirable. |
