Department Description

The Carolina Population Center is a community of scholars and professionals collaborating on interdisciplinary research and methods that advance understanding of population issues. The Center extends its resources to path-breaking work across the US and in more than 50 other countries and makes its findings available to a global audience. A nationally recognized training program educates the next generation of population scholars.

Research Services provides a variety of technical skills and experience to CPC faculty fellows, their research projects, other Center staff, pre-doctoral and post-doctoral trainees, and visiting scholars. Research Services provide services in the following areas: systems and user service, web services, research programming support, library services, graphics and publication services, proposal services, and spatial analysis), and has over 40 professional staff.

Position Description

This position is within the Research Programming unit of the Carolina Population Center and will provide data management and project support under the direction of the investigators for an NIH-funded grant. This project collects and disseminates longitudinal data from a nationally representative sample at the community, household, and respondent level. The research assistant will review and approve requests for the data from national and international researchers.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Strong quantitative skills and demonstrated proficiency in the creation an manipulation of Excel or Access files required. Previous experience with SAS software for statistical reporting and file creation is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience organizing data from multiple sources is desirable. Demonstrated ability to work independently and attention to detail is needed. Knowledge of legal contracts is helpful. Certifications in Project Management and Research Administration preferred.
