Position available: Part time Library Assistant at the Carolina Population Center
The Carolina Population Center (CPC) at UNC-Chapel Hill has a job opportunity for a part-time Library Assistant. Review of applications begins immediately and continues until the candidate is selected.
CPC is a community of UNC faculty, postdoctoral scholars and predoctoral students who collaborate on interdisciplinary population research. CPC’s Library & Research Translation Services unit supports the research and communications efforts of the center. The library collection of population-related materials is available to UNC faculty, students and staff members. To learn more, visit CPC’s website at https://www.cpc.unc.edu.
Responsibilities:
- Process courier requests by searching the UNC library catalog and literature databases.
- Photocopy, scan or check out materials from UNC campus libraries. Deliver materials to CPC researchers and return materials to campus libraries.
- When materials aren’t available at UNC, submit interlibrary borrowing requests.
- Manage an EndNote library of borrowed items.
- Verify citations and publications written by CPC researchers by utilizing UNC databases.
- Contribute to library operations by staffing reference desk occasionally, responding to questions from patrons, processing new acquisitions, and posting news and announcements to CPC’s website.
- Contribute to special projects as time permits.
Qualifications:
- Ability to carry (occasionally heavy batches of) books to and from campus libraries.
- Penchant for accuracy and attention to detail.
- Commitment to user-centered service delivery.
- Experience with searching UNC library catalog and literature databases preferred, but will train.
- Knowledge of EndNote preferred, but will train.
Additional details:
- Position requires 15-20 hours per week and continues through the summer. Hours worked must fall within the library's hours of 8:30am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday (closed Saturdays and Sundays).
- Position pays $11.00/hour.
- Preferred: ability to work at least 4
weekdays per week and willing to work through the Fall semester of 2012.
