Additional Services for CPC Researchers to Comply with the Policy

CPC Library staff can provide the following services for CPC researchers related to the NIH Public Access Policy:

  • Identify and explain use of the UNC-CH cover letter to the publisher

  • Identify and explain use of the UNC-CH Additional Term document

  • Advise authors on how to comply with the policy

  • Check for journal participation in PubMed Central

  • Direct authors to publisher policies on complying with the policy

  • Locate publisher contact information

  • Advise authors on seeking permission from publishers to submit previously published manuscripts

  • Presentations on the policy, in person or for groups

  • Advise those who serve on editorial boards on compliance with the policy from the publisher side including:

    • understanding the policy

    • accepting addenda from authors

    • modifying the editorial policy or copyright transfer agreement to support compliance

    • determining which version of the manuscript that authors should submit

    • determining the appropriate embargo period

    • becoming a PubMed Central journal
