To comply with the NIH Public Access Policy, CPC researchers must:

  1. Include the UNC-Chapel Hill cover letter to the Publisher when submitting a manuscript arising from NIH funds to a peer-reviewed journal.

  2. Attach a signed copy of the NIH Additional Term document when returning the publisher's copyright transfer agreement.

NIH Additional Term for manuscripts with more than one author.

  3. Submit the final peer-reviewed manuscript to PubMed Central upon acceptance by the publisher. CPC Library staff will submit manuscripts for CPC researchers. See Manuscript Submitter Service for CPC Researchers for instructions.

  4. Add the NIH Manuscript ID # or the PMC ID # when citing these articles in progress reports, renewals, and new applications.

If you have questions about the NIH Policy, contact CPC Library staff by visiting the library in 302 University Square East, e-mailing cpclib@unc.edu, or phoning the reference desk at (919) 962-3081.
