Harsha Thirumurthy is an economist whose research focuses on the linkages between health and economic outcomes in low-income settings. His research uses tools from applied microeconomics and draws upon primary data collected in longitudinal household surveys. Dr. Thirumurthy’s research examines the impacts of health interventions on various socio-economic outcomes and also explores the determinants of health-related behavior. Using longitudinal survey data collected in western Kenya, his recent research has estimated the impact of antiretroviral (ARV) treatment on the labor productivity of people living with AIDS as well as the health and schooling outcomes of treated patients’ family members. His current research in Kenya and Uganda explores the relationship between HIV/AIDS and investment behavior, and also includes randomized evaluations of interventions to improve adherence to ARV treatment. |
