C.M. Suchindran

C.M. Suchindran, Professor of Biostatistics at UNC-CH and CPC fellow, is currently the Director of the Demography Training program in the Department of Biostatistics. He is also a member of the Statistical Services Core at CPC. His primary research interest is in the area of statistical demography. He has several refereed publications on multi-state life table methodology, which is a primary tool for studying multiple transitions in life and length of stay in various states including health expectancy. His current research on analysis of multivariate failure times will have applications in analyzing multiple event history data pertaining to the elderly. As a statistician in the Lipids Research Project he was involved in research dealing with cardiovascular mortality and lipids in elderly including the nutritional habits of elderly. As a team member in the study, "Arteriosclerosis in Four Communities in the United States," he has been involved in the estimation of the post-censal population of the communities and in studying ethnic differentials in coronary heart disease risk. Currently he is examining health aspects of elderly in developing countries. A paper entitled "Social Networks and Health Status among Elderly Men and Women in South India" (co-authored with S. Sudha) was presented at the 1999 Population Association of America annual meeting.
