Courtney Harold Van Houtven
Courtney Harold Van Houtven is a health economist in the Center for Health Services Research and Development at the Durham Veteran's Administration and Research Assistant Professor at Duke Medical School. Dr. Van Houtven's aging and economics research interests encompass how family caregiving affects health care utilization of older adults. Currently she is examining informal care and Medicare expenditures using a small grant from the National Institute on Aging. In addition, she has examined payment changes in Medicare's skilled nursing benefit and access to care, as well as expenditure and utilization patterns among disabled adults participating in a Medicaid home and community based waiver program. Dr. Van Houtven has extensive experience with the Health and Retirement Survey and Medicare Claims data.
