Phillip Sloane

Phillip Sloane is the Elizabeth and Oscar Goodwin Distinguished Professor of Family Medicine and Co-Director of the Program on Aging, Disability, and Long-Term Care, at the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research at UNC-CH. Jointly certified in family medicine and geriatric medicine, Dr. Sloane is nationally recognized as an expert in the care of persons with Alzheimer's disease and in geriatric medicine. He has authored or edited over a hundred scientific papers and nine books, including Assisted Living: Needs, Practices, and Policies in Residential Care for the Elderly (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2001), Bathing Without a Battle (Springer, 2001), Primary Care Geriatrics, 4th Edition (Mosby-Yearbook, 2001), and Essentials of Family Medicine, 3d Edition (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2002). His research interests include assisted living, dizziness, Alzheimer's Special Care Units, end-of-life care, quality of life, observational measures of quality of care, and the management of behavior problems in Alzheimer's disease.
