How does Plone differ from WebGUI?
As a new Plone user you will notice a few differences from WebGUI. Understanding these differences may help you to make a smoother transition.
Access. As soon as you log in to Plone, you can edit your site. Plone offers authorized editors access to editing tools without requiring another step. (You don't need to "Turn Admin On.")
Organization. Plone folders contain content items; pages display content. Plone's organization will seem familiar because it is much like Windows Explorer. When you want to add content items, go to a folder, not a page. Like Windows, and unlike WebGUI, Plone pages do not contain subordinate pages.
Publishing states. New content items that you add in Plone will remain private until you are ready to publish. You can write in the final destination, edit, and share with reviewers before publishing. (You won't have to do your work in another location like "Site Edit.")
Editing. Plone's content editor appears as soon as you click the Edit tab. You won't need to drill down to find it. Use Plone's styles and formatting for best results. Plone writes clean html behind the scenes and filters out messy code.
Versioning. Plone keeps track of all versions of your content, and makes it easy to revert to any previous one. You won't have to go looking in the trash for an accidentally discarded version.
