IDOT Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

Each academic year (since 2006) IDOC has selected several Postdoctoral Fellows to begin their postdoctoral training programs at UNC. The postdoctoral awardees are noted in the discussion of the program. If you have completed or will be completing your Ph.D. and are interested in an interdisciplinary approach to studying obesity, please refer to the Postdoctoral Fellows Program on the home page (www.uncidoc.org).

IDOT Predoctoral Program

2008 marks the first year of the Interdisciplinary Maternal and Child Obesity training program for students earning a Ph.D. degree. This program will provide interdisciplinary training for doctoral students interested in pursuing research careers related to maternal and/or child obesity. The predoctoral awardees are noted in the discussion of the program on the home page (www.uncidoc.org)

Global Obesity Business Forum

The Global Obesity Business Forum is an initiative of the Interdisciplinary Obesity Center (IDOC) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill under the direction of Dr. Barry Popkin and food industry executive Henry (Hank) Cardello.

In 2007, senior executives from 14 major food and beverage companies, along with the leading international nutrition scientists and medical experts, participated in the 1st annual global obesity business forum. See attached press release for more information

In November 2008, the 2nd annual Global Obesity Business Forum is scheduled. This 2 day conference will again include senior executives from major food and beverage companies, along with leading nutrition scientists and medical experts. Some of the planned topics will include labeling, sweeteners, and regulations.

Corporate participants include Cadbury Schweppes (Dr. Pepper-Snapple), Campbell Soups Company, Coca-Cola, Danone, General Mills, Hershey Company, Kellogg’s, Kraft Foods, Mars, McDonald’s, Mead Johnson Nutritionals, Nestlé Starbucks, Unilever, Wyeth Nutrition, YUM!.
