Research Associate

Position Summary

The Research Associate will work on the Population and Reproductive Health Associate Award (PRH-AA), a five-year project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The PRH-AA has been issued by USAID under the auspices of the MEASURE Evaluation Phase III Leader with Associates (LWA) cooperative agreement. The objective of the project is to ensure optimal demand and analysis of family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH) data, and the appropriate use of such information to measure performance and to inform FP/RH interventions and policies.

The position is based at the Carolina Population Center at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill.

Responsibilities

The Research Associate will oversee data collection efforts for both the activity and results reporting processes; compile annual work plans and quarterly reports; prepare project management and administrative standards, guidelines, and protocols; aggregate the results data on an ongoing basis; and provide the PRH-AA Project Director with appropriate aggregated quantitative and/or selected qualitative data.

He/she will also ensure that technical activities have the logistics support needed to ensure that they are completed efficiently and will respond to ad hoc reporting requests from USAID in consultation with the PRH-AA Project Director.

Finally, the Research Associate will be engaged in at least one technical activity on the PRH-AA portfolio, as per his/her interests. The Research Associate will report to the PRH-AA Project Director.

Education Requirements 

Masters degree in Public Health or related discipline required.

Qualification & Experience Requirements

Three years of related experience working on a global health project required. Basic understanding of M&E principles required. Demonstrated skills in report writing preferred. Familiarity with large-scale demographic surveys preferred. Experience working with donor agencies preferred. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required. Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Experience in developing countries preferred. Availability and interest in working in developing countries and ability to travel internationally at least 20% time annually is required.

Fluency in English required. Fluency in Spanish, French or Portuguese is desired.
