Geographic Information Systems Applications in Public Health
This workshop offers an intensive training that covers fundamental concepts and tools for monitoring and evaluating family planning, maternal health, child health, STD/HIV/AIDS and nutrition programs.
The course includes modules on M&E frameworks, data systems and indicators, surveys used in PHN programs, evaluation designs, building performance monitoring and evaluation plans, utilization and feedback of M&E results, data demand and use, GIS, gender and the M&E of health programs.
Workshop attendees will gain hands-on experience in designing monitoring and evaluation plans by doing exercises, and working in small groups throughout the workshop.
Participant groups present the results of their projects during the final day of the workshop. A fieldwork component will involve visiting health facilities and/or NGOs implementing health programs.
This course targets mid-level health and population officers, program managers, and other professionals involved with the implementation of population, health, and nutrition programs. Applicants should be proficient in French, have some analytic skills, and have current responsibilities for developing program M&E evaluation plans. Computer literacy and experience with data systems is also be advantageous.
