- Nigerian Workshops Focus on Research to Improve Health Services
- Applying key research findings to help improve public health services was the focus of a two-day training workshop held in Lagos, Nigeria, in June 2012 by MEASURE Evaluation and Nigerian partners. Training covered bridging the research-to-practice gap related to HIV and AIDS programs.

- Report Conveys Importance of Gender Measures in Health Programming in Africa
- In its Millennium Campaign, the United Nations stresses the importance of gender equity, child health and maternal health to ending worldwide poverty. However, most studies exploring the relationship between gender measures and health outcomes for women and children have neglected sub-Saharan Africa, even though Africa itself accounts for 58 percent of maternal deaths and 51 percent of deaths of children under the age of 5. In a recently released technical report, “Influence of Gender Measures on Maternal and Child Health in Africa,” written by Kavita Singh, Shelah Bloom and Paul Brodish, MEASURE Evaluation sought to fill this research gap.

- Free E2G Mapping Tool Upgrade
- E2G has been enhanced. This free mapping tool allows users to create color-shaded maps in Google Earth using data from Excel spreadsheets.
- Extramarital Sex among Nigerian Men Study Published in American Journal of Men's Health
- Based on the study results, it could be concluded that significant proportions of Nigerians are exposed to HIV infection through extramarital sex. A fundamental behavioral change expected in the era of HIV/AIDS is the inculcation of marital fidelity and emotional bonding between marital partners.

- Strengthening the HIV M&E System in Nigeria
- The National Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (NACA) in Nigeria, conducted an assessment of the national HIV/AIDS M&E system to prepare to support the next National Strategic Framework. The 12 Components National Assessment Tool, which is based on the Organizing Framework for a Functional National HIV M&E System, was applied.
- Resident Advisors Trained in PEPFAR Next Generation Indicators
- MEASURE Evaluation Resident Advisors and staff from six countries met in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to learn about the PEPFAR Next Generation Indicators, which went into effect for FY 2010 reporting.
- Data Quality Assurance Tools Enhanced
- The MEASURE Evaluation Data Quality Assurance suite of tools have been updated and are now available.
- Interlinked Patient Monitoring Systems Developed for Country Adaptation
- The World Health Organization (WHO) and partners, with support from MEASURE Evaluation, have updated and expanded WHO’s 2006 Patient Monitoring Guidelines for HIV Care and Antiretroviral Therapy to promote the design and use of interlinked longitudinal patient monitoring systems that facilitate patient tracking and referrals between HIV care and treatment programs and other services. The revised guidelines are referred to as the Three Interlinked Patient Monitoring Systems for HIV Care/ART, MCH/PMTCT and TB/HIV or 3IPMS.
- Two Virtual Leadership Development Programs Successfully Completed
- To date, 22 teams in 15 counties, totaling 180 participants have successfully completed the Virtual Leadership Development Program to build leadership capacity of M&E managers in order to strengthen M&E systems and improve performance.
- Workshop Provided Training on Micro-data Management Toolkit
- Twenty-five health information science officers, data management specialists, and M&E specialists from public and private agencies received training on the Microdata Management Toolkit (MMTK), a metadata editor for documenting and preserving surveys and censuses.
- Excel to Google Earth Tool Released
- The Excel to Google Earth (E2G) tool has been developed for mapping data stored in Excel spreadsheets. This tool can help overcome several of the barriers that have limited the use of mapping for decision support and monitoring and evaluation.
