Findings from Adolescent Health Project Illustrate Increasing Health Risk from Teen Years to Adulthood

A study published in Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine offers new insights into race/ethnic disparities in leading health indicators. CPC Fellow Popkin Awarded Grant from NIH

CPC Fellow and Professor of Nutrition, Barry Popkin has been awarded a 5-year grant from the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health. "Diet, Activity, Obesity & the Built Environment Dynamics" is a longitudinal study with work continuing until June of 2010. MacArthur Foundation Awards Grant to CPC Fellow Leslie

Paul Leslie, CPC Fellow and professor of anthropology, has been awarded a grant from the MacArthur Foundation. The 18-month study, entitled “Alternative Consequences of Migration for Land Use and Conservation in Northern Tanzania”, was co-awarded to Terrence McCabe at the University of Colorado Boulder. CPC Fellows Walsh and Bilsborrow Awarded Grant from NASA

NASA has awarded a grant to Stephen J. Walsh, CPC Fellow and and Professor of Geography, and to Richard E. Bilsborrow, CPC Fellow and Professor of Biostatistics, for a two-year study entitled "Multi-Agent Models of Land Cover/Land Use Dynamics in the Northern Ecuadorian Amazon: Coupling Human & Natural Systems through Pattern-Process Relationships and Spatial Simulations." New UNC Library Catalog Search Interface

The UNC Library system has launched a new online catalog, which has an updated look and improved functionality. The catalog is accessible from http://webcat.lib.unc.edu/. CPC Fellow Lisa Pearce Wins Award

Lisa Pearce, CPC Fellow and assistant professor of sociology, has been selected as one of five William T. Grant Scholars nationwide. The William T. Grant Scholars Program supports early career scholars who conduct research on youth development. A $300,000 5-year research grant accompanies the award. ICPSR Summer Workshops

In 2005 the ICPSR Summer Program will be offering two new courses of  potential interest to researchers in demography and population studies:  "The American Community Survey," and "Data Sharing and Dissemination." The Data Sharing for Demographic Research project began at the end of last summeras a partnership of NICHD with ICPSR and the Population Studies Center at the University of Michigan, the Carolina Population Center, and the Minnesota PopulationCenter.
