Aug 6, 2008

CPC Fellow Arne Kalleberg presented the presidential address at the American Sociological Association's 103rd Annual Meeting in Boston on August 2nd, 2008. Kalleberg, Professor of Sociology, spoke about the conference's theme, Worlds of Work. The Chronicle of Higher Education reported on several different sessions at the conference, including Kalleberg's presidential address.

An excerpt from the article:

In his presidential address on Saturday, Mr. Kalleberg said that it is vital for social scientists to study the causes and effects of "the new workplace arrangements that generate precarious work and insecurity." Mr. Kalleberg argued, among other things, that the increasing flexibility that labor markets demand of workers has made it vital for governments to offer more support for education, but that support is not adequate.
