Andrew Olshan is interested in reproductive, pediatric, and cancer epidemiology. His interests and research have focused on the etiology of birth defects and cancer in children. He has been involved in epidemiologic studies of the role of parental exposures and adverse health effects in children. He has just started a five-year study funded by the National Cancer Institute to examine risk factors for neuroblastoma, a childhood tumor. He is also working on a NICHD-funded project that is exploring genetic susceptibility markers and the risk of preterm birth using data and samples from the Pregnancy, Infection, and Nutrition study. Dr. Olshan is the Principal Investigator of the CDC-funded, North Carolina Center for Birth Defects Research and Prevention.
