Jay S. Kaufman is a social epidemiologist who studies the ways in which health status varies by race, class and other socioeconomic quantities. He currently focuses on analytic methodology and on reproductive outcomes, cardiovascular disease, and provision of health care in the United States and Chile. Current projects include research on: race-specific pharmaceutical treatments, social and community factors in the etiology of preterm birth; non-parametric methods for covariate control and identification of direct effects for social factors; and racial/ethnic disparities associated with differential provision of medical care. He is a Research Fellow in the Sheps Center for Health Services research, and serves as editor for the journal "Epidemiology."
