Jacqueline Maria Hagan is professor of sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research interests include international migration, social policy, religion, and human rights. She is author of Deciding to be Legal (Temple 1994) and Migration Miracle (Harvard 2008). She has written extensively on the effects of recent U.S. immigration reform initiatives on the rights and opportunities of immigrants and their families in the United States and is currently completing a project on the human, social, and economic consequences of U.S. deportation policy. She is currently launching (with Ted Mouw and Sergio Chavez) a binational study of migration between North Carolina and Guanajuato, Mexico.
