Terminate Restricted-Use Data Contract

Temporary data analysis files may not be retained after termination of your Add Health Contract. You can retain a constructed variable file that contains created variables (without any original data variables). This constructed variable file should be sent to Add Health upon contract termination and we will securely store the file for 3 years, or until a new contract is established.

To terminate a Restricted-Use Data Contract, the following steps are required:

  • Destroy all data files at the originally-approved site.
  • Submit a letter stating that all Add Health data files have been securely erased with a secure erasure program listed in your security plan.
  • Return all CDs containing data files, within thirty (30) days of contract expiration by UPS or FedEx to the address at the bottom of this page.
  • Submit a final annual report or a statement that you have no publications, presentations, dissertations, or grants to report since the last report.
  • Add Health will visit the site within a year of contract termination to confirm the data have been destroyed.
