About Public-Use Data

Please view the Public-Use Data Document for descriptions for Wave I-IV. To determine which data are available through public or restricted dissemination, please view the Data Guide for Restricted-Use and Public-Use Files.

Getting Public-Use Data

Public-use data are available from four different sources: The Odum Institute at UNC, the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), the Association of Religion Data Archives (ARDA), and Sociometrics. Users may obtain the data from any of these sources, depending on their needs.

Odum Institute Dataverse Network

The Odum Institute at UNC distributes the Add Health public-use data at no charge through the Odum Institute Dataverse Network. To download the data, users are required to sign a guestbook and agree to the Add Health and Dataverse terms of use. For more information or to obtain the public-use data, visit Dataverse.

ICPSR

The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) distributes the Add Health public-use data at no charge through its Data Sharing for Demographic Research (DSDR) project. Public-use data are available for download from the DSDR website. To download the data, returning users must log in to their MyData account; new users are required to create a MyData account. MyData is the user registration and authentication system for the ICPSR and DSDR websites. The system uses an email address as a login ID and requires a password. For more information or to obtain the public-use data, visit ICPSR.

ARDA

The Association of Religion Data Archives (ARDA) distributes public-use data at no charge. To download the data, users will be required to agree to the Add Health terms of use. For more information or to obtain the public-use data, visit ARDA.

Sociometrics

Sociometrics distributes the public-use data for a fee. For more information or to obtain the public-use data, visit Sociometrics.
