Master Agriculture Files

There are nine Master Agricultural files that cover farming, gardening and fishing.

Master Farming Files

Master Farming files include household farming and individual farming and gardening files.

1. Household Farming

The CHNS Household Farming Master File contains information regarding the farming income of survey households. As a longitudinal file, it contains multiple years of data for each household.  An individual can have from 1 to 8 years of data starting in 1991 as designated by the WAVE variable, which contains the survey years from 1991 to 2011.

2. Individual Gardening and Farming

The CHNS Individual Gardening and Farming Master File contains information regarding the gardening and farming income and activity of survey individuals. As a longitudinal file, it contains multiple years of data for each individual.  An individual can have from 1 to 9 years of data as designated by the WAVE variable, which contains the survey years, 1989 to 2011.

This file consolidates gardening and farming data from 18 survey files:

Master Household Gardening File

The CHNS Household Gardening Master File contains information regarding the gardening income of survey households. As a longitudinal file, it contains multiple years of data for each household.  An individual can have from 1 to 9 years of data as designated by the WAVE variable, which contains the survey years, 1989 to 2011.

Master Crops Type File

The CHNS Crops by Type Master File contains information regarding the farm income by type of crop. As a longitudinal file, it contains multiple years of data for each household that raised crops.  A household can have from 1 to 4 years of data as designated by the WAVE variable, which contains the survey year, 1989, 1991, 1993, or 1997 and from one to four types of crops.

Master Livestock Files

Master Livestock files include three files: household level activities, individual level activities, and livestock type.

1. Household Livestock File

The CHNS Household Livestock Master File contains information regarding the livestock and poultry income of survey households. As a longitudinal file, it contains multiple years of data for each household.  An individual can have from 1 to 8 years of data starting in 1991 as designated by the WAVE variable, which contains the survey years, 1991 to 2011.

2. Individual Livestock File

The CHNS Individual Livestock Master File contains information regarding livestock and poultry income and activity of survey individuals. As a longitudinal file, this file contains multiple years of data for each individual.  An individual can have from 1 to 9 years of data as designated by the WAVE variable, which contains the survey years, 1989 to 2011.

3. Livestock Type File

The CHNS Livestock by Type Master File contains information regarding the livestock income by type of livestock. As a longitudinal file, it contains multiple years of data for each household with livestock.  A household can have from 1 to 9 years of data as designated by the WAVE variable, which contains the survey years, 1989 to 2011, and from 1 to 4 types of livestock.

Master Fishing includes household level files and individual level files.

The CHNS Household Fishing Master File contains information regarding the fishing income of survey households. As a longitudinal file, this file contains multiple years of data for each household.  An individual can have from 1 to 9 years of data as designated by the WAVE variable, which contains the survey years, 1989 to 2011.
