Master Income Files
There are eight Master Income
files that cover wages, occupations, household businesses, subsidies and other
income.
Individual Occupation Master File
The CHNS Individual Occupation Master File contains information regarding the occupations of the survey individuals. As a longitudinal file, it contains multiple years of data for each individual. An individual can have from 1 to 8 years of data as designated by the WAVE variable, which contains the survey year, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2006, or 2009.
This file consolidates occupation data from eleven survey files:

Individual Wage and Bonus Master File
The CHNS Individual Wage and Bonus Master File contain information regarding the individual wages, hours, and months worked and bonuses received. As a longitudinal file, it contains multiple years of data for each individual. An individual can have from 1 to 8 years of data as designated by the WAVE variable, which contains the survey year, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2006, or 2009. Each year an individual can have a primary and/or a secondary job.
This file consolidates wage and bonus data from 15 survey files:

Business Master Files
1. Household Business File
The CHNS Household Business Master File contains information regarding the Household Business activity by Business since a household may be involved in more than one household business. As a longitudinal file, it contains multiple years of data for each business within a household. A business can have from 1 to 8 years of data as designated by the WAVE variable, which contains the survey year, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2006, or 2009.
This file consolidates this business data from Eight survey files:

Subsidies Master Files
1. Food Subsidies File
The CHNS Subsidies by Food Master File contains information regarding household subsidies by type of food. As a longitudinal file, it contains multiple years of data for each household that received food subsidies. A household can have from 1 to 3 years of data as designated by the WAVE variable, which contains the survey year, 1989, 1991, and 1993 and from one to nine types of food subsidies.
This file consolidates food subsidies from three survey files:

An individual can have from 1 to 8 years of data as designated by the WAVE variable, which contains the survey year, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2006, and 2009.
