Master Child/Parent Relationship File

The Child/Parent Relationship File contains a single observation for every child who participated in a CHNS Survey and was 18.9 years of age or under at the time they were first surveyed.  It contains their current household (HHID) and individual (LINE) ID, and up to six ID pairs (household/line) for parents with whom they have resided.  The six ID pairs are:

1.      Father (dad_h/dad_l) - biological father
2.      Mother (mom_h/mom_l) - biological mother
3.      Grandfather (gdad_h/gdad_l)
4.      Grandmother (gmom_h/gmom_l)
5.      Other Father (odad_h/odad_l) - step father or foster father
6.      Other Mother (omom_h/omom_l) - step mother or foster mother
