Ever-Married Women Files

EMW Master File

The CHNS Ever Married Women (EMW) Master File contains information from the Every Married Women (EMW) Surveys related to child bearing. As a longitudinal file, this file contains multiple years of data for each individual.  An individual can have from 1 to 6 years of data as designated by the WAVE variable which contains the survey year, 1991, 1993, 1997, 2000, 2004 or 2006. 

This file consolidates Ever Married Women data from 7 survey files:

The information about the "most recent pregnancy" which was collected in this section of the Every Married Women Survey prior to 2004 has been moved to the Pregnancy History File.  This move consolidates all pregnancy information in one place.  Variables S76-S84, S98, and

S105-S107 were renamed to match the Pregnancy History Table and moved to the Pregnancy History File (M07PREG).

EMW Mass Media Master File

The CHNS Ever Married Women (EMW) Mass Media Master File contains information from the Every Married Women (EMW) Surveys regarding physical activity and TV viewing. As a longitudinal file, this file contains multiple years of data for each household.  An individual can have from 1 to 3 years of data as designated by the WAVE variable which contains the survey year, 2000, 2004 or 2006. 

This file consolidates EMW Mass Media data from 3 survey files:
