Obesity Environment Transition

This project focuses on modifiable factors in the physical environment (e.g., recreation facilities, transportation, crime, weather, air pollution) that might contribute to the differential distribution of physical activity and overweight patterns by ethnicity and socioeconomic status. This study will develop and validate new physical environment measures from existing databases that will be linked to Add Health respondents’ geographic locations and investigate the effect of physical environment measures on physical activity and overweight patterns of adolescents and young adults.

Data for this research come from both the Add Health study and the CARDIA study.
