Sample
The CARDIA study is a longitudinal study of the antecedents and risk factors for cardiovascular disease in a cohort of 5,115 black and white men and women aged 18–30 years at their initial examination in 1985–1986 from four different US regions. Six examinations have been completed in the cohort [Year 0: (1985–86); Year 2; (1987–88); Year 5; (1990–91); Year 7 (1992–93); Year 10 (1995–96); Year 15 (2000–01); and Year 20 (2005–06)].
