Research
I am interested in the ecology of both chronic and communicable diseases and how people’s interactions with the environment drive the development of disease. I use spatial statistics (i.e., spatial regression, hierarchical modeling and cluster analysis) and GIS to examine spatial variation in a variety of health outcomes. My doctoral research examines the socioeconomic and environmental determinants of birth defects in North Carolina. I am also developing “environmental connectivity” metrics for the vaccine efficacy trial project.
