- Our second annual research network workshop was held at the Aberdares Country Club in Kenya, February 6-8, 2012. We brought together researchers and evaluation specialists from around the world to present results on new impact evaluations of social cash transfer (SCT) programs in Africa, to discuss innovative questionnaire items and research hypotheses, and to identify ways to enhance the link between research results and actionable policy recommendations.

- The Transfer Project launched its Research Network on January 19-20, 2011 at the Great Rift Valley Lodge in Naivasha, Kenya. Researchers from a dozen universities joined with social cash transfer (SCT) program managers and technical staff from international agencies to present and discuss evaluation designs and results from several large-scale SCT evaluations in the region. African universities represented at the conference included University of Ghana (Legon), University of Malawi, University of Zambia and University of KwaZulu Natal. Selected papers from the conference will appear in a special issue of the Journal of Development Effectiveness published by 3IE.

- The Transfer Project held an implementers meeting for Social Cash Transfer (SCT) Program Officials in Lesotho September 21-24, 2010. The objectives of the conference were to facilitate the exchange of experiences and lessons learned in the implementation of CT programs in Africa. Topics covered included targeting, benefit levels, payment mechanisms, appeals procedures, management implementation systems (MIS), monitoring, and evaluation. A field trip was organized to visit the Lesotho Child Grant Program.
- Social Cash Transfers and Impacts on Children in Eastern & Southern Africa from Mar 04, 2009 12:00 AM to Mar 06, 2009 12:00 AM — Nairobi, Kenya,
- This workshop was held after the seven month design phase of The Transfer Project. The SCUK research team had visited the proposed target countries and completed detailed reports on the state of SCTs in the country, and the potential for either leveraging existing M&E systems or creating new evaluation designs to help inform the evidence base around SCTs and their impacts on children. The key objectives of the workshop were: 1) To build an outline of the national and overarching research frameworks and implementation plans based on key decisions on project design issues; 2) To establish shared understanding and ownership of the project at national and regional level.
