Abstract:

This article reviews some of the key dimensions of the nutrition transition. Among the topics covered are the shift toward obesity with some focus on the speed of change globally, the key dietary and physical activity dimensions, the shift toward a greater burden of obesity and nutrition-related non-communicable diseases among the poor, a comparison of overweight and underweight adult patterns in urban and rural areas globally, and the greater obesity currently found in rural areas.
