The article presents a study which evaluates the impact of Oportunidades, a social assistance program, on skilled attendance at delivery in rural areas of Mexico. It proposes that there may be significant window of opportunity to increase skilled attendance at delivery among the poor population targeted by the program. It reveals that the program has a larger effect on women who had a birth in both the pre-and postintervention study periods. Moreover, the study indicates that Oportunidades has demonstrated a positive impact on giving prenatal care to pregnancies of enrolled women.
