USAID APHIA II Kenya
The overall objective of the APHIA II Evaluation project is to strengthen the capacity of the Kenya Ministry of Health national health management information system and USG implementing partners' in Kenya monitoring and evaluation (M&E) systems to collect and use HIV/AIDS, reproductive health (RH) and family planning (FP), and maternal and child health (MCH) data. The objective will be achieved through a range of technical assistance, training, and data collection and research activities. The Carolina Population Center (CPC) is a subcontractor to Macro International Inc. for specific activities within the overall project. Specifically, CPC will conduct a Priorities for Local AIDS Prevention Efforts (PLACE) study to identify areas at highest risk of HIV transmission to inform HIV/AIDS prevention efforts and will provide technical leadership and support to strengthen the measurement of mortality and cause of death through technical assistance to five Kenya Demographic Surveillance Sites with particular emphasis on AIDS mortality data. In addition, CPC will facilitate linkages between the APHIA II Evaluation project and the MEASURE Evaluation project led by CPC.
