ProCite

Quick Guide to ProCite

ProCite is a database management program designed to manage large numbers of bibliographic references.

 Users can:

  • choose from a variety of fill-in-the-blank templates for data entry
  • create, edit, and store references
  • retrieve and print formatted bibliographies in a number of pre-defined styles such as APA, ASA, Chicago, Science, etc. (especially useful when submitting articles to journals requiring different formats)
  • customize templates and style formats
  • edit records individually or globally
  • use pre-defined sorting options or create a customized sort

Linking ProCite with a word processor allows users to cite references in reports or papers, and automatically generate a bibliography.

ProCite allows file sharing across the NetWare network. As an example, with proper authorization, a ProCite database owned by one researcher can be accessed by other research staff from their own workstations.

ProCite is available over the CPC network, but must be installed on a researcher's workstation. Please contact Laurie Leadbetter, 962-3081, cpclib@unc.edu, to arrange for installation.
