Description of Work

The Family Planning Country Action Process Evaluation (FP CAPE), funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) seeks a Clinical Research Associate for two months (mid-January to mid-March 2019) to participate in the analysis of qualitative data related to the Nigeria Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI) 2 Midterm Learning Evaluation. The position is based at the Carolina Population Center of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The Research Associate’s principal functions will include:
Assist with monitoring quality of interview transcripts received from the field. Recognize trends/ issues related to qualitative data as appropriate.
Working with FP CAPE’s qualitative analysts, code transcripts and notes, analyze themes, and interpret and summarize study findings. Specifically: participate in developing a codebook for data analysis; conduct coding; identify themes.
**Participate in writing up qualitative findings.

Education and Experience

Required: Four-year degree or equivalent combination of training and experience necessary to perform the work.

Preferred: Master’s degree in economics, sociology, psychology, public health, information management, or related discipline. At least two years of experience with qualitative methods, in particular with data collection, coding of transcripts and audio recordings, and analysis of qualitative data. Demonstrated software skills and experience using Atlas.ti (or NVivo) strongly preferred.

Qualifications & Experience:
Knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures of monitoring and evaluation and family planning. Ability to show initiative, good judgment, resourcefulness, and work well with others in a multicultural environment. Ability to work with minimal supervision, manage a high-volume work flow under tight deadlines. Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Fluency in English required, knowledge of Hausa and/or Yoruba, desired.
