Description of Work

The MEASURE Evaluation project at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is looking for a temporary, part-time (hourly) designer. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
•Design and layout print projects such as technical reports, brochures, factsheets, and briefs.
•Implement designs in existing templates in InDesign.
•Format PowerPoint slides and reports in Word using styles.
•Work directly with clients on their projects or under the supervision of the project’s senior graphic designer/creative director.
•Develop original illustrations and infographics.

Education and Experience

Required:

High school diploma or equivalency and two years of visual/graphic arts experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Computer skills on a Macintosh platform and proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Microsoft Word are highly desired. Demonstrated mastery of design principles through a portfolio of print materials, as well as, strong design, layout, typography and communication skills (both written and verbal) is preferred. Knowledge of print production and basic web development is a plus.

The preferred candidate will have thorough knowledge of the principles and methods of planning, designing, and producing visually appealing products that communicate a clear message to target audiences. Additionally, the preferred candidate should be a self-sufficient designer with an excellent portfolio, have a strong sense of typography, a proven track record formatting technical reports with many graphics and tables, and be extremely detail-oriented. The preferred candidate must also have demonstrated technical knowledge, good communication skills, and experience working within specific time frames and budgets.
