For many years GIS and mapping software options have been limited to expensive, difficult to learn programs. In recent years, new options have become available that are changing the mapping landscape. Google Maps, public domain GIS programs, and CPC's own E2G are making mapping more accessible than ever. This presentation provides an overview of some of the new options and presents the strengths and weaknesses of the new software.

  • Make the most effective use of the COS and InfoEd Sponsored Programs Information Network (SPIN) multidisciplinary funding opportunity databases (how to search, important features, pros and cons);
  • Set up a customized funding alert in COS and other agency specific mailing lists (such as NSF, ED, NIH);
  • Identify UNC internal funding opportunities; and
  • Research actual awards funded by ED, NSF, NIH, EPA, and other sponsors
