This panel will focus on challenges and opportunities related to inclusion of biomarkers in large population surveys, addressing:

  • What are the most informative, cutting edge methods and markers for use in population research? (Whole blood by venipuncture, dried blood spots, urine, feces, other tissues for analysis of the microbiome, metabolomics, disease and nutrient markers, and quantification of the exposome).

  • What informs decisions around inclusion of biomarkers in study protocols?
    • Feasibility: What is field-friendly?
    • Cost
    • Respondent burden
    • Establishing collaborations with lab science experts

  • Ethics:  what are responsibilities around return of results?

This panel includes principal investigators of large population based studies with experience in measurement of biomarkers.
