Introduction: The efficient planning of any scientifically valid research project usually involves extensive interactions between a scientific or clinical investigator and a collaborating biostatistician. In carrying out such collaborations, it may be useful to provide structure that will ensure that all pertinent topics are covered in a logical order. In
this chapter, we recommend introducing structure to the planning process through the use of our version of ‘20 questions’, denoted Q1 through Q20.
