Trend Analysis of Body Mass Index in Urban and Rural Residents Aged 18~ 65 Years from 1991 to 2011 in; Guangxi

Objective To analyse overweight and obesity trend in urban and rural residents aged 18~65 years in Guangxi. Methods The data from China Health and Nutrition Survey (1991,1993,1997,2000,2004,2006,2009 and 2011) were used to identify the trend of overweight and obesity rate in different years, different sexes, different regions, different ages among urban and rural residents aged 18~65 years in Guangxi . Results The overweight and obesity rate occured an increasing trend among urban and rural residents aged 18~65 years in Guangxi from 1991 to 2011. A mean of BMI increased from (20.7±2.8) kg/m2 to (22.3±3.2) kg/m2.The rate of overweight and obesity increased from 7.85%and,0.68%to 24.83%,and 5.49% respectively,the increasing rates of them were 17.0%,and 4.8%,respectively. the increase was216.3%,705.8%, the average annual growth rates were5.6%,10.4%respectively. The increased rate of overweight was heigher in men than that in women, the obesity was higher in women than that in men. The rates of overweight and obesity were higher in urban residents than those in rural residents, but the increased rates of overweight and obesity were heigher in rural residents than those in urban residents.The wasting rate of residents decreased from 17.93%in 1991 to 10.18%in 2011, with decreasing by 7.71%, the decrease was 76.1%. Conclusion Because the rates of overweight and obesity in urban and rural residents in Guangxi are increasing rapidly, the relevant departments of government should take the preventive and control measures timely.
