Sante Et Salaires: Une Estimation En Variables Instrumentales Sur Un Panel De Travailleurs Chinois. (Health and Wages: An Instrument-Variable Estimation on a Panel of Chinese Workers. with English Summary.)

In this article, we study wage returns to health capital (measured by body-mass index) and to nutrition (measured by kilocalorie consumption) on a panel of Chinese workers from the 1991 and 1993 China Health and Nutrition Surveys. We apply Semykina and Wooldridge's econometric procedure (2005), which takes simultaneous account of unobservable individual heterogeneity, selection bias, and endogeneity. Our results demonstrate that returns to health and nutrition in China are confined to the private sector and are not in evidence in the State command economy.
