Ashu Handa is a human resource economist in the Department of Public Policy. He conducts research on household economic and demographic behavior in developing countries, with particular interests in the role of demand and supply side factors and their interaction in determining children's schooling and health outcomes, and the optimal design of poverty alleviation programs. One of his current research projects looks at the impact of Kenya's Cash Transfer Program for OVC on HIV risk behavior of adolescents. He is also working with the Government of Ghana to assess the impact of the government's poverty alleviation cash transfer program and the National Health Insurance Scheme on family health and human capital. He is the PI on the Transfer Project, a joint learning initiative with UNICEF and SCUK to study the effects of social cash transfer on families and children in sub-Saharan Africa.
