Fertility and the Great Recession

Dr. Daniel Schneider

Daniel Schneider is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of California, Berkeley. After receiving his Ph.D. in Sociology from Princeton University in 2012, he was a Robert Wood Johnson Scholar in Health Policy Research at UC Berkeley from 2012-2014. Schneider’s research is focused on the family and social inequality.

His work has examined economic influences on family formation, including work on labor union membership and marriage and asset ownership and marriage. His current research examines how the economic shocks of the Great Recession have affected relationship quality, marriage, and fertility. A second line of research focuses on household finances and particularly on household financial fragility. Dr. Schneider uses the non-public versions of data from NCHS, in the Berkeley RDC, to support his research.
