Barbara Entwisle, CPC Director, CPC Fellow, and Professor of Sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has received funding for the research project “HSD: Marginality in a Marginal Environment: An Agent-Based Approach to Population-Environment Relationships.” This research project will focus on the marginal populations in the Nang Rong district of Northeast Thailand and will evaluate the impact of weather-related events on social behavioral change and, in particular, changes in land use.

Funding is provided through February 2008 by the National Science Foundation. Co-investigators are CPC Fellow Ronald R. Rindfuss, UNC Professor of Sociology, and CPC Fellow Stephen J. Walsh, UNC Professor of Geography.
