Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA – MEASURE Evaluation has won an Associate Award from the U.S. Agency for International Development’s South Africa Mission – with a ceiling of about $15 million over 5 years.

MEASURE Evaluation will support the South African government and the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief’s implementing partners to improve strategic Information for evidence-based management of HIV and related health programs. MEASURE Evaluation will focus on three priority areas:

• Implementation of strategies and policies to enhance strategic information, including monitoring progress of policy implementation and building advocacy capacity within a broad, multi-sectoral approach
• Capacity building for improved strategic information data quality and use, and
• Strategic information capacity building to strengthen health information systems, including systems for GIS, mHealth and eHealth.

Overall, this project will result in a stronger, more comprehensive and more sustainable health information system in South Africa at both the national and sub-national levels. 

About MEASURE Evaluation

MEASURE Evaluation is a consortium of organizations, led by the Carolina Population Center of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Other partners are John Snow, Inc., ICF International, Futures Group, Tulane University, and Management Sciences for Health. MEASURE Evaluation presently works in over 30 countries. Each partner brings unique and complementary capabilities to the consortium and their roles vary according to country needs. In the case of South Africa, John Snow, Inc. has played the largest role and will continue to do so in the proposed plan.
