The National Institute on Aging (NIA) invites applications for research on retirement economics. The research objectives of this Program Announcement include, but are not limited to: (1) the determinants of retirement behavior, (2) the variation in work patterns in later life, (3) the evolution of health and economic circumstances of individuals through retirement and into later life, (4) time use and life satisfaction before and during retirement, (5) the implications of retirement trends, (6) retirement expectations, (7) international comparisons of retirement and (8) the development of innovative retirement modeling techniques.
Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary. The total amount awarded and the number of awards will depend upon the mechanism, numbers, quality, duration, and costs of the applications received.
This PA will use the NIH R01, P01, R03, and R21 award mechanisms.
Eligible institutions include: a.) For-profit or non-profit organizations, b.) Public or private institutions, such as universities, colleges, hospitals, and laboratories, c.) Units of State and local governments, d.) Eligible agencies of the Federal government, e.) Faith-based or community-based organizations. Domestic or foreign institutions/organizations may apply to this Program Announcement using the NIH R01, R03, and R21 mechanisms. Only domestic institutions/organizations may apply using the NIH P01 mechanism.
Eligible principal investigators include any individual with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research. However, eligibility under the R03 mechanism is limited to new investigators or established investigators working in a new area.
There is no limit to the number of applications a given institution may submit.
