Sylvie Tuder
I am a sociologist with research interests in the structural determinants of population health of women, racialized groups, and sexual/gender minorities across the life course in the United States. Much of my work uses an intersectional, biosocial framework to explore the ways that structural oppression, such as heteropatriarchy and racism, during young adulthood subsequently shapes health inequalities. I also consider the ways that institutional punishment, particularly in schools and carceral settings, is a key mechanism generating and maintaining inequities in population health and mortality.
