Support to Evidence Informed decision-making through the Transfer Project
Summary
The Transfer Project (TP) is an international research collaborative focused on 1) generating evidence on the broad social and economic impacts of national cash transfers programs in sub-Saharan Africa and 2) to support governments in the use of evidence in decision-making on social protection and anti-poverty policy. The three pillar organizations involved in TP are University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH), UNICEF, and FAO; key partners are national and international researchers and government program implementers and policymakers. During 2024-2026 grant period the TP will engage with African policymakers and scholars to identify evidence gaps for high-value policymaking, conduct and support impact evaluations, educate members of the media and civil society about cash transfers, and increase the capacity of government policymakers to identify evidence gaps and commission and use evidence for decision-making. Our goal is to have more Social Welfare Ministries in Africa systematically commission and use evidence to inform their programming and policy decisions, encourage robust evaluation of ongoing and future programs, promote transparency between government and civil society, and to promote generation of evaluation and implementation evidence by African researchers and scholars.
