There are unique physiological as well as psychosocial aspects to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of STIs among transgender individuals. This chapter provides an introduction to the diversity of identities and anatomy among transgender patients and summarizes what is known about the epidemiology and basic science of STIs among this patient population.
