In his comment on our paper, Smith has reanalyzed the World Fertility Survey (WFS) data for Sri Lanka using different estimation procedures, variables and sample sizes. The results presented by Smith are in fact very similar to those of our paper. Smith himself notes that his results agree with ours with respect to the impacts of parity, education and residence on breastfeeding duration. The only variables for which Smith states that results differ are working away from home, contraceptive use (the results differ only for long duration cases), and mother's age. Smith himself states that our results on working away from home are probably better because our method aJiows the use of a "more sensitive indicator".URL
